Mr. Wicks (known as “Pops” to those who love and respect him) specialized in neck cranks, wrist locks and toe holds throughout his career in carnival wrestling in the 40’s, 50’s and 60’s and is one of the few living treasures serving as a direct link to other great wrestlers from the late 1800’s and early 1900’s.
Pops learned from legendary Hooker Henry Kohlen who was a direct student of Farmer Burns at the turn of the century. Pops often describes Johnny as a Hooker that is as skilled as some of the greatest wrestlers he knows from the "old days."
